I was THAT student.....

On Friday night, our 8th grade girls came over to celebrate their time in middle school youth ministry and we commissioned them on to high school. We had a good time with our pasta bar and desserts. O, and you cannot forget the dancing and laughing and watching me "Drop it Like It's Hot"..... (no pictures of that, unfortunately)

While they were here, I got out some of Travis and my yearbooks from middle school at good ol' LMS. We were cracking up at some of the things that people wrote in my yearbook. Here's an excerpt from my blogging friend, Brittany:

"Hey Meagan! You are an awesome friend! You'll make a GREAT LHS cheerleader! Good luck in everything! 99-00 Raiderette, Brittany Shearer"

Or another favorite:
"Yo, this is Clay here. I guess I will see you next year. -Clay Buchholz #11" (now a starting pitcher for the Boston Red Sox)

How bout this academic note:
"Have fun next year. Good luck in Geometry"- Jeffery R.

Or this about my social skills:
"Hey Meagan, keep smiling and STOP TALKING! j/k I had fun this year."- Jory M.

This one wins the award for the most abbreviations:
"Meagan, Hey! What's (up arrow)? N2MH! Just (heart)'n -----! w/u (heart)'n Chris! Well hope to c-ya next year! c/o 2003 Rox! (drawing of a fish) rule! (heart) ya, RS" (I was going out with a guy named Chris....)

But, I was appalled when I read this from one of my former teachers:
"Meagan, I'll sure miss your annoying questions next year. What am I gonna do if I don't have another student next year to replace your irritating ways? Hope you have a safe summer and great 9th grade year. Love, Mrs. Linthicum"

What?!?! I would never say that to a student in their yearbook. No matter how much they annoy me, I would not do it! I am sure (knowing how sensitive I was at this point in my life) that I probably cried over this message.

Here's one more from my G/T Teacher (Travis and I met in this class):
"Meagan, I really do truly, sincerely, etc. like you! You have a bubbling personality- keep it up! God Bless You!- Mrs. Baldwin"

That was better, at least it had a positive message in it. I remember thinking that she hated me because she took me outside in the "hallway" to tell me that I was annoying her. Apparently, she did not like my comments and questions 24/7. Yes folks, I was THAT student. The one that irritates me now. Since I started teaching, I have often wondered what my teachers really thought of me. Sure, I was a great student and was an over-achiever, but I was a talker, not a hand-raiser and I was a blurter! It made me want to pray for my former teachers, that God would replace their thoughts of me with pleasant memories, haha. But, when I thought all was lost and I would forever be remembered as an annoying student, I ran into my Kindergarten teacher at Bath & Body Works in the outlet mall in SAN MARCOS! Let me back up and say that I went to Kindergarten in a SMALL school (24 students in my whole grade and we were the largest grade) in East Texas called Douglass Elementary. Mrs. Wilson was my teacher and she was pretty, sweet, gentle and very patient. I still remember how welcomed she made me feel on the first day of school. She was a perfect Kinder teacher! She's still teaching and looks GREAT for teaching for 34 years!! We took a picture together to share on Facebook (we are FB friends).
I asked her what she remembered about me in Kinder and she said that I was a pleasant girl with great dreams and a bubbling personality. She said I was always sweet and willing to help out. Good, I'm glad she doesn't recall me raising my hand for EVERY question or talking out of turn..... :)

P.S. I also found this message in my yearbook:
"Hey, Have a great summer!- Travis Hogg"

You can tell it was true love in those words, right?? :) haha
