Youth Camp

This week, our youth traveled to University of North Texas in Denton to attend Student Life Camp. We got up early Monday, boarded the charter bus and off we went! The camp was AMAZING! All of our girls were so well-behaved and responsible, I am so proud! The camp pastor was Wes Hamilton, and Travis and I first saw him at Super Summer as campers about 10 years ago. He did an excellent job! The camp worship leader was Charlie Hall, which we had also seen at a youth function previously! The kids loved both and we agreed that this was probably the best team for any youth event we have attended! While the curriculum and staff were great, the devil did try to sour our experience. Wednesday was a bad day for our campers... With the extreme heat conditions outside, we had a few that were getting heat exhaustion, one diagnosed with strep, one foot injury and I spent Wednesday night with one of our girls at an urgent care facility because she broke her arm. :( When I got back from the urgent care facility, we also had a girl sick from dehydration. I also noticed that I was beginning to feel icky, so I took some emergent-c powder and headed to bed. The chills and aches would not leave me through the night and I woke up with my eyes matted shut. This usually means pink eye, great! I headed to the on-campus clinic and was diagnosed with pink eye and a virus, got meds and stayed in bed until that evening. Bummer time for me, I did not want to be feeling this way when I could be hanging out with all of our awesome campers! I started to feel better, but that night, my ear started hurting and I woke up at 3AM with the WORST ear infection I've ever had. As we made our way back to Austin, Travis made me visit my doctor here and they were concerned that I could have busted my eardrum. I got meds for the infection and was told to come back for a check-up in a week to see if there was damage to my eardrum. WHEW! What a week!

Camp was great, aside from the maladies, and I was reminded what an awesome God we serve. He has changed hearts, including mine this week and He continues to remind Travis and me both that we are right where he wants us to be. I love serving with these precious youth. They are AWESOME!

Me with Michael and Matthew Tolar. These boys are the sons of my youth minister and they happened to be at the same camp as us. They were 8 and 6 when we graduated from high school. I feel old!

We saw sightings of Spiderman, Captain America, the Wizard and the Red M&M at camp. :)

The boys also wanted to roll down the hill....
