Paxton's Arrival

Travis and me at a local coffee shop enjoying our last day of being parents of two boys
Where do I begin?  Well, my last day of teaching before baby was Friday, October 24.  Nothing happened that weekend, and we had scheduled an induction for Tuesday, October 28.  Actually, something did happen that weekend.....  Travis' sister, Kaitlin, who was two weeks behind me in her pregnancy, had her baby Sunday, October 26. Baby Landon is so precious, congrats to Rocky and Kaitlin!
I'm up and ready to rock this delivery.  This picture was before we left the house on Tuesday, October 28 at 5:30am
I was off of work on Monday, October 27, so Travis took off and we spent the day running errands, eating out together and just having a nice day together since the boys were at school.
The next morning, we got up EARLY to be at the hospital at 6:00am to start the induction.  They started me on pitocin around 7:15am, and things were moving along but not as quickly as I thought it would go.  At about 10:00am, my doctor came by to break my water.  Then, things really started moving.  I had decided to try this labor sans drugs, so without any lamaze or birthing classes, I was breathing it out and Travis was the best supporter!  The contractions were not that bad until about 11:30.  In fact, the boys and our parents dropped by the room to visit for a while because I was going okay with the pain.  At 11:30, we did have to ask them to leave because the pain was getting intense and I did not want my boys to see me in that pain.  At 1:30pm, the nurse checked me again because my contractions were getting closer together, and I was only 6cm dilated.  I thought for sure I was further along with the pain I was in......  I couldn't get out of the bed after that because the contractions were coming one after another.  I whistled my way through them (I know, it's weird), and I felt the urge to push about 10 minutes after they checked me at 6cm.  I knew they wouldn't let me push because there was no way I was completely dilated yet!  Well, they checked me after I tried so hard to hold back pushing for about four contractions...... I was dilated to 10 cm! I was so relieved to hear that I could push for some relief!  After one and another little push, Paxton Rynn Hogg arrived at 2:07pm!  At 1:30pm, I was 6cm and he was born about thirty minutes later!! That's a super fast progression and delivery! It was so fast that neither my doctor nor the on-call doctor had a chance to get in the room, and the nurse delivered him!  It was her first official delivery and she was so excited!

Since he came down the birth canal so quickly, they had to poke and prod him a bit to get him to cry, he was in shock.  But, I heard that sweet cry, I felt so amazing and proud of myself for having a baby without pain meds!  I know other people have much longer labors and other difficulties, but if you have a standard labor and delivery, anyone can do it if you take it one contraction at a time.
Paxton Rynn Hogg weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces (our biggest baby by over a pound) and he was 20.5 inches long (same length as me).
What a blessing from God!
