Well, I started my final semester of classes ever (hopefully) yesterday. It was actually a waste of my time. I'm not just saying that because I had to go to class and it's kinda boring, but I did literally waste my time because I didn't attend a class that I was actually enrolled in, and thus I wasted my time. Let me explain- I have been trying to get into a political communication course to satisfy my elective requirements, but the course has been full since last spring. After emailing the professor many times this summer, I learned this week that it was still full, but if there were any drops, then she'd let me know. Well, I went ahead and registered for another CMS class that sounded interesting, Computer-Mediated Communication, which was offered on the same day and time as the political comm class. I went to my new class yesterday, and after about 2 minutes of hearing the professor talk about the class and go over the syllabus, I knew this class was not what I was expecting!! It was a research class, using the methods and modules of technology. Research doesn't really get me going, and I knew I didn't want to waste my elective on this boring stuff. So, after sitting for 10 minutes listening to the professor practically speak in another language, the information was so foreign to me, I finally mustered up the courage to raise my hand and explain that I didn't want to be rude by just leaving, but that I was in the wrong class. He chuckled and let me know that I could leave. I decided to go sit in the political comm class that I wanted to take, and maybe I could talk to the professor after class and she would see my persistence and let me in the class. Well, she was very sweet and understanding, but the class was held in a conference room, around a conference table, so she had to really stick to the number of people in the room for fire code reasons. So, I still could not get into this class. She said she did admire my persistence and she would still let me know if there were any drops. She recommended that I try to register for another CMS course offered at the same time by a prof that I had twice as an undergrad. I decided to give it a shot, but when I went to register for the course, I saw that the class was closed. BUMMER!! So, I emailed the prof and reminded her that I took two courses from her a few years back and asked if I could get into the course. She responded politely that she did remember me, but she's already had to turn down other people in the CMS major because the class is full. What am I going to do? This is the 6th course I've tried to take to satisfy my electives, and all of the rest have either been cancelled or closed!! After scouring the UT course schedule again this morning in desperation, I decided to register for a class offered on Monday afternoons in the College of Education and Law School. It kinda scares me a little, especially since the professor is the head of the department that the UIL is a part of at UT. I heard this class is pretty tough and requires lots of reading and writing, but I don't think I have any other choice if I want to finish all courses this semester so I can focus on my internship and graduating in the spring. Pray for me and pray that I can somehow make it through this crazy semester with all of the extra little events that are also going on in my life-- moving and decorating a new house, training for a half-marathon, and teaching a new youth small group at church. I know my God can make a way and He will provide.
PRAYER REQUEST--- Travis has an interview at 10:00 TODAY for a good-paying job at Texas Imaging Systems. Please pray that it goes well and God is glorified!!!
