Encouraged

I have been really encouraged with athletes that use their platforms to take a stand for Christ. I know you always hear that athletes, "Give God the glory" for helping them win, etc., but it's another story when you can see athletes in adversity still proclaim that to the world. I don't want to make idols of the athletes themselves, but I do want to point out that they have been an encouragement to me and to other young kids watching that it is possible to still trust in God and have faith even when things don't go so well.

Two guys that I really respect are Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow. Both of these guys have been leaders and quarterbacks for their respective teams and have inspired their teammates and coaches to live for non-earthly accolades. Both recently had adverse things happen to their teams lately. Colt, who plays for UT, had to leave the last game of his decorated college career and National Championship game with an injury and not return for the rest of the game. Though the backup quarterback almost led the Longhorns back to a victory, Colt had to sit on the sidelines and watch his team lose, helplessly. Yet, at the end of the game, he held back tears and stated that he would never question God, but that he'd continue to put his faith in God and trust His plan. Tim Tebow, the quarterback for the Florida Gators lost his chance at another National Championship when his team was outmatched by Alabama. He had so many emotions following the game, but he still commended Alabama's skills and effort and wished them well. He also continues to take a stand for Christ in his community, by serving overseas and encouraging inmates in prisons.

I hope there are similar guys that are so open about their faith that Hudson can see when he is old enough to understand. Even though it's not the popular thing to do or may often be critcized by the media or public, these guys take a stand and live out their faith. I pray that just one person was touched by these actions. As a close friend reminded me following UT's loss in the National Championship game, that eternally speaking, Colt McCoy would have never been able to speak such encouraging words and take a stand in adversity had his team and himself not experienced adversity. God truly knows what He's doing, huh? :)

Watch Colt's interview here.
