28 Weeks

Well, my countdown says that I only have 83 days left until my due date. It's getting closer, and that makes me both excited and nervous. I can't wait until Hudson is actually here so we can see him, see what he looks like and hold him. But, I am nervous about doing things right and being a good mommy. I know it will come naturally to me, but I've never really been around babies much.
My mamaw wanted to get us the travel system we registered for at Babies-R-Us. She was going to pick it up, wrap it and bring it to my first shower in Lumberton next weekend, but she didn't want me to have to worry with finding room for it in the truck on the way back to Austin with the rest of the loot. So, my mamaw sent me the money to go pick it up here in Austin, so that's what we did today. So fun getting that and Travis put it together when we got home. I love it! Here I am at 28 weeks with the new stroller/carrier combo. Thanks Mamaw!

I've really been enjoying feeling Hudson move around inside of me. He is still very active, and I can now tell how big he's gotten, as I can feel some movements in one place and then feel another stronger movement in a totally different place at the same time. Still hard to believe that a 2.5-pound baby that is almost 14 inches long is inside of my tummy. I checked my weight this morning and discovered that I still haven't gained as much as I thought, which is still encouraging! I have roughly 10-12 weeks left, and if I only gain a pound a week, then I'll be under my weight gain goal, which is nice. Don't worry, I had some extra cushion when I got pregnant and I have been eating plenty, so Hudson is definitely not starving! :)

This week, here's what we have planned:
- I have a glucose test and lab work on Wednesday morning to test for gestational diabetes, which I'm pretty certain I do not have, but every pregnant woman is tested around 28-30 weeks. I have to drink a sugary orange drink that I hear is not very tasty and then they take my blood an hour later.
- Dr. appt. on Thursday morning, including the results from my glucose test and another ultrasound! We can't wait to get another peek at Hudson and see how he's grown!
- Head to Silsbee on Friday to stay with my parents for the weekend. We are going out for crabs on Friday night and I'm super excited about that!
- My first baby shower is Saturday at Linda Bingham's house!! I've been looking forward to this since I found out I was pregnant. This shower will consist of people from Crestwood and friends and family from the area. Love them and can't wait to see them!
- Heading back to Austin with my loot on Sunday after church. Excited about showing Travis what Hudson got and getting it all in the nursery. Then, I get to sleep late on Monday b/c I have the day off courtesy of MLK day. Girls' night later that evening! :)

I will definitely take lots of pics to share with y'all of the ultrasound and shower. Until then, here's what's going on with Hudson at 28 weeks:
By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds (like a Chinese cabbage) and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels. He can blink his eyes, which now sport lashes. With his eyesight developing, he may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. He's also developing billions of neurons in his brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

Also, I wanted to send out a special congratulations to two new mommies this week:
Lily Anne Guedry was born on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 to Joseph and Sarah Guedry. She and her mommy are doing great!
Kynlee Jean Chenaux was born on Friday, January 8, 2010 to Nathan and Kristin Chenaux. She and her mommy just came home today and are doing wonderfully!
