Spring Break Spring Cleaning

Sadly, Spring Break is almost over. I so enjoyed spending time with family and friends this week! It was such a great week and I felt so productive!  We had a few organization projects we wanted to complete this week, so we tackled those and I'm proud to say we conquered!

Main Project:
Renovating our Master Closet

I have been worried about where to put the clothes and stuff we store in the guest closet since that will become Hudson's closet soon.  Travis convinced me that it would be more cost effective if we just renovated our current master closet instead of buying a bigger house :).  He's so practical!  So, this was our main project that we had been planning for a few weeks.  We had to get ALL winter clothes, ALL gift wrap supplies, ALL board games, ALL suits and dress clothes and some other little things into our already-maxed-out master closet.  I did not want to put things in bins for storage because we never know the weather around here and Travis has to wear suits or dress clothes every Sunday.

I've always been upset with the amount of wasted space in our closet.  There is only one rack that goes around the closet, leaving about 3 feet of wasted space below the top shelf.  We decided to take down the single rack and design a closet with double racks on two walls, two shelving units, shoe racks and a place to hang long coats or dresses.  The organization side of me was sooo giddy!  We decided to start the project last Sunday afternoon since we did not have evening church activities and after two trips to Lowe's and LOTS of moving and sorting clothing, we completed the main reno in about 36 hours!  All I can say is Travis is awesome and embraced my vision of organization!

I am a terrible how-to or reno before/after person because we forgot to take pics of our closet before, but here are the after pictures:

In the three photos above, you can see where the old rack was (the putty on the wall). The last picture above is directly behind the closet door. We decided to turn that into shelving because the door always bumped into any clothes that were hanging in that tight space.

This is our closet now, after sorting through and organizing all clothing.  We ended up donating 12 trash bags full of clothes and stuff to Goodwill. It's still pretty tight, but the space is definitely maximized and organized!
