I feel like a historian...
Well, today I had a meeting with a professor about a certain class that is an "independent study" class... I wasn't sure what that meant, so I went to ask... Apparently, I have to read a few books on Sport History (that's what the class is about), write a few reviews and then write a final research history paper on the topic of my choice. This sounded interesting, since I like sports and I like history, then she told me that it had to be 20-25 pages in length and be very research-extensive!!! That made me a little nervous, because I have never been excited about writing since my days as a journalism undergrad, but I think that going to graduate school and pursuing "higher education" has motivated me to think like a scholarly girl now, so this seems like something that I can accomplish and a work that I will take pride in completing! So, I think I'm going to take the class this summer, which means that from May until mid-August I will be surrounding myself with Sport History and researching the history of the UIL in-depth (most likely). I guess that means that my "social" life might be affected, but I figure it's the price you pay in grad school, and I am in the home stretch!! Classes will be finished in December and all that will be left will be my internship, which will be in the Spring of '09. That's another prayer request... I have to submit a letter to the faculty asking for permission to complete my internship at my current job. I know, it's dumb that they would have a problem with me doing and internship at a place in the field of sport administration, but apparently it may not be fair to the other grad students or something... hopefully that works out and they approve. Otherwise, I will have to either quit my job at the UIL for 6 months to take a measly internship somewhere else or I will have to write the dreaded THESIS, which also comes with taking a research methods class and another stat class.... :( Hopefully I will get the approval!! I will certainly post when I get the chance... Well, I better go. My husband and I have a date tonight! :) (but the happiness will eventually wear off when he has to drop me off at the library later for a group meeting, haha!) Hugs!!
