Contrary to the title of this post, I will not be discussing shoes from a favorite sports apparel store of mine, though I would like some new tennis shoes! Instead, I am giving an update on my running situation. Last time I blogged, I told about my disappointing news about the half-marathon. Since I couldn't run in that race, I decided to sign up for a run in Austin that was a 10-miler. I was looking forward to it being local and less than 13.1 miles. As I read the course description, I saw that it said that the race included some "rolling hills", but it rated the course generally easy to run. HOWEVER, after finishing the race yesterday morning and feeling the burn today in my legs, I can vouch that they were not just "rolling hills" they were killer mountains that I hiked! The race was the most difficult physical feat that I have ever endured, and I am not so inspired to do it again any time soon! I've always heard that once you run your first race or marathon, you get runner's high and you want to do it again, well not this girl! After the grueling race yesterday, in which I wanted to puke, lay down in the street and cry, I can say that I think I'll stick with 5K races and MAYBE one 10K. Marathons are not for me... Sadly, I've always wanted to run a marathon, but I don't think my body can handle that!
Anyways, I did finish, so that makes me happy. And, after I finished the race, my sweet husband had a Diet Dr. Pepper waiting me at the finish line! :) For those unaware, I gave up carbonated beverages while I trained, so that's 4 months without a Diet Dr. Pepper or Cream Soda! The abstinence from sodas was tough, but I leaned more on my love for sweet tea during the difficult times! :) yummy!
I've decided to take this week off from training and then start working out with Travis and his total body physical fitness workouts. Since I've been running, my legs are more muscular, but the stomach and the arms have taken a hit with flabbiness. Those are my next focuses.
I wanted to post a picture of me finishing the race, but Travis (who had two cameras ready at the finish line) missed me running at the end and kept looking for me after I finished... Bless his heart, he felt so bad! I love him!!

I'm so proud that you finished the race and don't feel bad about not being able to do a marathon...it's not for everyone.
