Here is a taste of what is going on in our lives via our annual Christmas letter and Christmas card pictures! Merry Christmas! :)
Merry Christmas, Friends and Family!! December 2009
With only a few weeks remaining in 2009, it seems like the appropriate time to reflect on the happenings of the Hogg Family in 2009. We have surely been busy working, serving and spending time with friends and family.
The biggest news of the year is that of a little blessing that will be joining our family in Spring 2010. Yes, in case you haven’t heard already, we are expecting our first child, a boy named Hudson Lane. We are very excited about this blessing on the way, and we have been busy preparing for his arrival. The estimated date of delivery is April 3, which is the day before Easter. We found out that we were pregnant in August, and although we were initially surprised, our excitement grew in anticipation of Hudson’s arrival. Since this will be the first grandbaby on both sides of our family, all grandparents, Aunt Kaitlin and Uncle Dustin are very excited as well!
In other exciting news, after some prayer and seeking God’s direction, Travis has accepted the position as the Associate Director of Youth at our church, Bannockburn Baptist Church. After growing up in the youth group and continuing to serve in college, we are very excited about this new journey! Travis officially starts his new job on January 1, so please join us in praying that God would continue to guide our family as a new family in the ministry.
We are still enjoying our lives as homeowners and continue to host fellowships for our Sunday School class, youth group and other friends and family. In fact, we officially opened our home for youth events in April when we hosted our first Disciple-Now youth event as a host home. Meagan also taught the group of middle school girls that stayed at our home for the weekend and it was a great and exhausting weekend! We have completed a few projects around the house, including painting and furnishing the nursery for Hudson and expanding our backyard fence to make a bigger play area for our dogs.
Speaking of the pups, Snuggles and Timber continue to rule the roost and always make us laugh as they play and perform their tricks. Timber continues to hold “conversations” with us, and Snuggles continues to always greet us with excitement when we arrive home from work each day. We are trying to prepare them for the change that will happen in their lives in a few months. It will be interesting to see how they react to Hudson’s arrival.
Meagan decided to follow in her father’s footsteps to teach and possibly coach. She completed her alternative teaching courses and became certified in middle school math and all levels of P.E. Although she has yet to find a job as an educator, we know that God has a plan for her in this field. She continues to work for the UIL in Austin and will be assisting with both basketball state tournaments this year. This should be very interesting, considering she will be a few weeks away from her due date at the time of the tournaments! She has also continued serving as a small group leader for the Senior girls in the youth, and is inspired by these girls each week.
Meagan also completed her master’s degree in education and is excited to finally have time away from school and classes after almost 20 years of uninterrupted school! At this point, she has no plans to pursue a doctorate degree. It has been nice at nights and on weekends with no studying or writing papers in the house since both Travis and Meagan are out of school.
To celebrate our two-year anniversary, we took another cruise to the Western Carribbean in July. We had a great time and it was especially nice to get away and sleep, read and relax whenever we wished! We made port calls in Progresso and Cozumel, Mexico and have some adventurous stories to remember about the trip!
Meagan teamed up with her dad to begin training for the San Antonio Marathon in November. Although Meagan had to stop training after learning she was pregnant, her dad continued the training and became a marathoner in November. We all traveled to San Antonio to cheer him on in his race, and we are so proud of his accomplishment! He has already convinced Meagan to train for the San Antonio Half-Marathon in November 2010.
As we wind down the year, we reflect on the many blessings God has granted this past year. He has been our Provider in many ways by blessing us with jobs, friends, a home, a great church and a supportive family. We pray that you remember the real Reason for this Christmas Season as we celebrate the birth of our Rescuer- Jesus. We are very thankful for your friendship and support and we pray that God richly blesses you and your family in 2010! We are excited to witness the joys that this year will bring for our family. Blessings,
